Polished Concrete

Polished concrete is quickly becoming the ultimate no-wax residential flooring material. Thanks to recent advances in concrete polishing equipment and home flooring techniques, concrete contractors are now grinding concrete floor surfaces- whether new or old- to a high-gloss finish that never needs waxes or coatings. Concrete polishing can transform standard concrete floors to an aesthetically pleasing basement floor, garage floor, or interior living area floor.

Simply put, polishing concrete is similar to sanding wood. Heavy-duty concrete polishing machines equipped with progressively finer grits of diamond-impregnated segments or disks (akin to sandpaper) are used to gradually grind down surfaces to the desired degree of shine and smoothness.

Polished concrete floors can be colored while being placed through integral color or the use of dry shake color hardeners and then polished. Dry shake colors give a decorative look to any application. Existing concrete floor construction can be colored by dyes or acid stains and polished. The options for dyed concrete coloring and concrete polishing are limitless.

Besides being beautiful, polished concrete is a sustainable, affordable home flooring alternative that is durable and easy to maintain. We recommend a simple concrete floor maintenance program of occasional dusting to remove grit and damp mopping with a neutral cleaner to enhance the polished concrete’s shine. Some manufacturers sell special cleaners and conditioners for polished concrete that not only clean the surface, but also leave behind a dirt-resistant film. These products can be applied with a mop or auto scrubber and do not require buffing. As part of our polished concrete services, we offer an inexpensive yearly cleaning and concrete maintenance program.
